Akali Khurd, a village near Bathinda, was jolted awake by the sound of an explosion from an aircraft crash around 2 am Wednesday. A labourer from Haryana died and nine people sustained burn injuries following an explosion after the crash, villagers said.

The unidentified aircraft allegedly crashed in the fields near the village, which is located just 20 km from the Bhisiana Air Force Station in Bathinda. Soon, villagers rushed to the site.

Authorities are yet to comment on the development.

The Punjab Police were the first to be alerted regarding the incident, after which the fire brigade was called. Army and Air Force officials reached the spot before sunrise. The Army cordoned off the area, and the Air Force set up a canopy and began collecting the debris.
